The Youth Council of Euskadi (Euskadiko Gazteriaren Kontseilua) is a public organization. It was created by the Government of Euskadi on the 27th of May, 1986 , in Act 6/1986. It is a platform  of youth associations that works for young peoples rights.

EGKs main objectives include:

  • Working to improve the conditions of life of all young people, between the ages of 14 and 30, in Euskadi. Special attention is paid to the conditions of those young people in difficult situations, or who are excluded or at a disadvantage, and to guaranteeing their rights as citizens.
  • Guaranteeing that young people have conditions of life and sufficient resources to be able to carry out their initiatives and live their lives in a democratic framework and participate, both individually and collectively, in the construction of society as agents of change and of sustainable, mutually supportive, fair development.
  • Working towards the inclusion of young people in society by improving their conditions of life, guaranteeing their rights and effective resources in order to be able to really participate in society as well as receiving education about social values. It is only possible to work towards active participation in society in this way, which means not only understanding the social context but also transforming it.
  • Encouraging the collective responsibilities of all social agents and, particularly, public responsibility in the development of an appropriate Youth Policy and services, specifically designed for young people or not, in the context of a new social contract.
